Itinerary

Arrival to Kathmandu(1310 m./4298 ft.) Airport where our representative will welcome you and assist in transferring to your hotel for an overnight stay.

During the 40-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (9,186ft), we enjoy one of the most beautiful air routes in the world culminating on a hillside surrounded by high mountainous peaks. At Lukla, a gateway destination from where our trek begins, we meet our other crew members and begin packing and arranging with them. From Lukla, we start trekking. At one hour’s gradual descent, we will be at a Cheplung village from where we have a glimpse of Mt. Khumbila (18900ft), a sacred mountain that has never been climbed. From Cheplung, we then gradually descend until we reach Phakding and spend the night.

Walking through a beautiful pine forest, we follow the trail north up the valley of Benkar. Then, we cross Dudh Koshi River and go on passing Chumoa to Monjo, the entrance to Everest National Park. Then crossing a suspension bridge, we pass Jorsale village and walk alongside the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi rivers. A steep ascent brings us to the prime heartland of Sherpa village - Namche Bazaar. At one hour’s distance to reaching Namche Bazaar, if the weather permits, we can view the sights of Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.

Today is plenty of days of things to do around Namche Bazaar, and we can spend a day here acclimatizing. Namche Bazzar is the main center of the Khumbu region and has government offices, ATMs, Internet cafes, shops, restaurants, and a colorful market. Our guides can take us to explore the real charm of Namche Bazaar. Hiking to Sagarmatha National Park rewards trekkers with a sunrise view and the views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kongde and so on. If we are interested in a day hike, we trek to Khumjung village (12401ft)-a beautiful village with a Sherpa settlement. In exploring Namche Bazar, we observe traditional Sherpa life, Khumjung Hillary School and enjoy flora and fauna found at such altitude. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.

This segment of the trek includes the famous descent to the Dudh-Koshi River and the equally famous ascent along with the rhododendron forests to Tengboche. While descending to Dudh Kish River, we enjoy the views of mountain tops like Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kongde and so on. Upon reaching Tengboche, we visit Tengboche monastery-the largest monastery in the region and soak in the views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and other peaks. Overnight in Tengboche.

We descent and trek through forests filled with a variety of lush trees – birch, conifers, and rhododendrons. This journey again rewards us with tremendous views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. The picturesque trail dips down to Devuche, crosses the Imja River and takes us to Pangboche. The upper Pangboche trails reward us with a more pristine view of the Himalayas and the Pangboche Monastery. The trek moves ahead towards the Imja Valley, Lobuche River and ultimately begins climbing up to Dingboche. At Dingboche, we see a beautiful array of fields enclosed by stone walls to protect barley, buckwheat, and potatoes from the cold winds and grazing animals. Overnight at Dingboche.

Dingboche is a popular stop for trekkers and climbers headed to Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam or Imja Tse. The village is beautiful with an array of fields enclosed by stone walls to protect barley, buckwheat, and potatoes from the cold wind and grazing animals. We spend a day at Dingboche for acclimatization. We take day hikes to either Nagarjun Hill or Chukkhung Valley for great views of Makalu, Lhotse, Chalotse, Tawache, and Ama Dablam.

We start the day with a gradual climb to Duglha at the end of the terminal moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. From here, we climb up a steep trail to Chupki Lhara, where we find an array of stones with prayer flags used as memorials to Scott Fischer (American mountaineer) and 10-time Everest submitter Babu Chiri Sherpa (Nepali mountain guide) who perished on a mission to climb Everest. Next, we continue to the Khumbu Glacier moraine and find ourselves facing several great peaks - Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori and Mahalangur Himal. The trail then eases off as we follow the valley to Lobuche. Overnight in Lobuche

We take the trail to Everest Base Camp through valley of Gorakshep. Continuing straight ahead, we come across the Indian army mountaineers' memorials. The path from here can be misleading; hence, it is important that we follow our lead Sherpa diligently. The walk is strenuous due to thin air in the high altitude. We pass through rocky dunes, moraine, and streams before reaching the Everest Base Camp. Upon reaching the Everest Base Camp, we see tents of mountaineers that stand out in bright colors against the monotony of gray surroundings (especially in the spring). Nuptse, Khumbuste, and Pumori are the mountains we can view from the base camp. We get back to Gorak Shep for a good night's rest. Overnight in Gorak Shep. However, the sunset view from Kala Patthar is more admirable than the sunrise view, so it is recommended that we visit Kala Patthar today during sunset. As the setting sun's rays strike the snow-capped mountains, the resulting scenery is incredible. Therefore, for those trekkers who wish to continue to Kala Patthar today instead of the next day please inform your guide and he/she will coordinate accordingly.

We prepare for an early morning departure, amid pre-dawn darkness and cold temperatures (-10 to -14 C). Plus, there is always the potential for chilly winds which are quite common. Familiar peaks such as Lingtren, Khumbutse, and Changtse tower to the east even as Everest begins to reveal itself. But, it is upon reaching Kala Patthar that we get to see 360 degree up-close and formidable views of Mt. Everest. We take pictures, enjoy the magnificent mountain panorama, and then return back to Gorakshep for Breakfast and following day we descend to Pheriche for a good night's rest.

We trek down through the hillside blanketed by rhododendron and juniper trees. After crossing the prayer-flag festooned bridge over the Dudh Koshi River, our trail follows the Dudh Koshi gorge descending rapidly through pine forests. In the forest, we may come across colorful pheasants and mountain goats. The path eventually reaches Sansa from where we can enjoy views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku and Nuptse mountains. We also pass winding trails then through a forest before reaching Namche Bazaar. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.

The trail descends steeply downward so we need to walk cautiously as our shaky legs continuously battle the rocky terrain. After crossing the suspension bridges over the fast flowing Dudh Koshi and its tributaries, the trail becomes more level and natural. After our arrival in Lukla, we stretch those sore legs and recall the experiences of the last couple of weeks. Overnight in Lukla

We catch an early morning flight to Kathmandu after our long mountain journey. After reaching Kathmandu, we can take a rest or do some souvenir shopping. If we want to explore any other areas of Kathmandu, we may do that today. Our guides can help you with both souvenir shopping or sightseeing. There will be a farewell dinner in the evening to celebrate the successful completion of our journey. Overnight in Kathmandu

Your adventure in Nepal comes to an end today! There is nothing to do but trade emails with your travel companions and organize your photos. A representative from Step By Step Treks & Adventure will take you to the airport, approximately 2 hours before your scheduled flight. On your way home you'll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.

The beautiful scenery, people and culture of Nepal and the Himalayas made this trip one of the best that I have done. The tours in Kathmandu were so insightful and I experienced a new culture and people. Spending time exploring the mountain villages and being among the locals going about their normal business was a delightful experience and the memories are now etched in my mind. The tour company, Step By Step, made the trip so easy and trouble free. From airport pick to drop off at the end of trip, I did not have to worry about things. The flight to Lukla, all accommodation and meals during the trek were so well arranged for me so that I enjoy the trek in a hassle free environment. I had a large menu to chose from at all places and the food was delicious, especially the Sherpa vegetable soup. Anil He was young but very experienced. He started over a decade ago with Step By Step as a porter, and is an accomplished, professional guide. He spoke excellent English and his knowledge of the terrain, culture, mountains, flowers, trees...was exhaustive. The service was excellent and far exceeded expectations. Really, it was more than I could have ever imagined from start to finish. I strongly recommend planning to stay in Kathmandu for a few extra days after the trek in case of inclement weather delaying the flight out of Lukla. I was lucky and caught my scheduled flight but quite a few people were delayed for 1 day and 2 days as safety is paramount. If you're thinking about trekking in Nepal I would highly recommend using Step By Step Company.

What a personal changing trek it turned out to be! Trekking at it’s the best, stunning and peaceful, with the pinnacle the trek up to Base Camp with the splendid panorama mountain views. This was such an incredible experience! It is so difficult to describe just how majestic and breathtaking the Himalayas really are. Every single day of the trek I found myself humbled by the scale and beauty of the mountains. Step By Step Treks Company absolutely outdid themselves in terms of providing us with a trek that was organized, safe, fun, and most importantly, successful in making it up to Everest Base Camp! Our guide Anil was friendly and knowledgeable with well known the area, and our porter Santosh was such a gentle and kind smile man. They both helped make our trip so easy and extraordinary special. I'm so pleased that I booked this trek through this company. I think it's really important to support the local community by using a guide and Step By Step had provided a comprehensive end-to-end package that gave me total peace of mind through the entire trip within free of a hassle. Also, the value I got for my money was well beyond expectations. In fact, I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them as the first choice or using them again myself.

Nepal has always held a fascination for me. So when I decided that I wanted to attempt the EBC trek, I began looking around for a company to provide me with what I needed. I found Step By Step Treks and Adventure on Google and off I went. Even amongst the Nepalese, who are naturally very friendly and hosting, the Step By Step team is standouts. From the second I walked out of the airport to the instant I left, they were absolutely perfect. They picked me up, kept me informed, and hosted me perfectly. I was provided with a tour guide, Dharma, by the company that gave me a fantastic tour of the city. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely good company. As I was by myself, I appreciated the patience he displayed and his natural manner. He also a teacher of Meditation and yoga who been doing for long years. On the morning of the trek, I was picked up by Mr. Krishna, who made sure that I got on my flight to Lukla! In an airport where there can be chaos at very crucial times, he absolutely did everything to ensure that I got on that flight. That was definitely a moment where I was pleased that I choose this company. My guide, Bharat was an absolutely perfect guide. He was a great company, very knowledgeable, and above all, an EXCELLENT guide. He took care of me, walked at my pace, assisted me with everything from advice to camerawork, and made sure that I was fed and looked after at all the lodges we stayed at. A guide in Nepal is more than just a guide. They are your waiter, companion, advisor, and friend. And Bharat was all of these things and more. Make sure that you ask for him! Krishna Lama and his team are an incredible bunch of people and very good at what they do. When you are trekking or traveling in the Himalayan Mountains, it is crucial that you have experience behind you. Also, the value I got for my money was well beyond expectations. In fact, I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them as the first choice or using them again myself.

I truly can't say enough about my experience with Step By Step Company! From my first inquiry to being brought to Kathmandu airport at the end of the trip, I have treated wonderfully hospitality and everything was exactly as promised and then some!!! Krishna Lama was a great resource and answered all of my questions promptly and fully. My guide Bharat was a wonderful companion on the trek and kept an eye on me to ensure I was safe and that all my needs were looked after. I called him the king of the Trail. Guides and porters from other treks continuously stopped to speak with him and shake his hand. He's well respected among his peers and colleagues. He even checked my temperature (O2) levels to ensure all was well. Santosh was my porter and was always available to help with anything I needed. When we reached the top I was speechless - I never thought I would make it! It was an experience of a lifetime and I hope I'll venture to Nepal again to do another trek with Step By Step. The Fuji Hotel in Kathmandu is a nice spot and easy to access bustling bazaar of Thamel It's probably the best company out there and I strongly recommend choosing them.

My partner and I trekked to Everest Base Camp in November 2019. Our guide, Bharat was outstanding! He was very attentive, sociable, and always made the time to ensure we were comfortable and enjoying our trek. Krishna Lama and his colleagues at Step By Step Company are excellent. All our questions pre-trek were answered attentively. Our transfers from the airport ran smoothly and we had a superb stay at the Fuji Hotel in Thamel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Kathmandu and it was due to the caring, diligent, and helpful staff working for Step By Step Treks Company!

I have just returned from doing the EBC trek. What a personal changing trek it turned out to be. Bharat, our guide was first class, professional, friendly, great local knowledge, and 110% satisfaction. I wouldn’t choose another trip without him, he was just that great. From the very first contact with this company, I knew they were the people to book with. Even All my questions were answered quickly with the exact information I was looking for. The trek itself was, as I had researched, hard but very fulfilling and adventurous. Again our guide Bharat took all the necessary safety precautions, allowing us to acclimatize correctly, letting us know all the daily things we would be experiencing. Many times a day he would ask about our physical health, without this guide, we would maybe not have completed the trek, as many other people we saw were evacuated because of incorrect acclimatization and speed of which to walk to altitude correctly. A big thank you to all the team at Step by Step Company, I would highly recommend them and I will always use them for any further treks in Nepal. See you again! Namaste

I profoundly recommend this excursion, Kalappatar shouldn't be missed! Our Step By Step manager Krishna Lama briefed us comprehensively on trekking conditions and our schedule prior to departing and organized our resort accommodation (upon request) at our return. Her attention to detail is reassuring, to say the least, we had absolute confidence in Him. For our first experience abroad, in hindsight, we wouldn't change a single detail. Picked up in the late evening from the airport by our Friendly guide Syam, it became evident that his ownership of our Himalayan experience was personal. He sold the total package of EBC on his amicable, unflappable conduct. Throughout the entire trek, Syam was right about wherever you needed him to be, whatever the requirement. His converse with the porters and hosts was on par, and he always negotiated an accord in our favors. One of the Himalayan heroes was our porter Santos, always making himself available as the personal host. Many times Santos would return unladed from dispatching our baggage at the accommodation and assist a struggling group member by taking a daypack or offering stimulating support. Having been blessed with good fitness, some days I delighted in catching up to Syam climbing a pass during the days' trek which would draw a chuckle and a positive response. In reflection, our EBC advice is to go with Step By Step, go hard, go prepared and go without expectations. Because the real reward will come later, reflecting on your journey a lifetime away in the warmth and comfort of your humble daily existence

I went for this trip to February-2020 and reached the Everest base camp. It was an unforgettable experience! Step By Step Treks & Adventure company was helpful throughout the whole process, from my first emails (Krishna replies quickly all in great advice and details) to get ready for the trek, to being sent off at KTM airport after the trek. My guide, Bharat, was very experienced and friendly, and we were able to reach Everest base camp and Kala Patthar successfully while taking lots of photos and videos along the way. The scenery of the whole journey is simply amazing! I will definitely come back again for Annapurna trek..!
